Due to Covid, activities from TWIST Basel, an organization promoting women in science, paused. We would like to restart the work and activities of this initiative, and potentially expand and rebrand this organization to include diversity issues in scientific environments.

We thus would like to invite you to a meeting and Apero at the FMI on March 22th to discuss the future of TWIST and hear your thoughts on:

1. Potential rebranding, please see original TWIST statement and a potential rebrand, as below*

2. Planning for recurring annual events and structures.

General Meeting with Introduction, Q & A, agenda setting
Networking/Advising event for Jr. female scientists with Sr. female scientists
Speed-dating Mentoring event, students/postdocs mentored for 15 min by multiple senior mentors (no long-term obligations).
Diversity and Inclusion meeting: raising awareness/sharing best practices

3. Initiating a private LinkedIn group for greater communication and networking within this organization (for sharing questions, success stories, information, opportunities etc.)

4. Solidifying the leadership structure of the organization for greater sustainability by having in addition to PhD students and postdoc members, an advisory board that includes equality, diversity and inclusion officers/experts in Basel.

In the registration form (mandatory to attend the event), you are more than welcome to share before the meeting any EDI (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) concerns or potential initiatives, to be considered for the agenda to discuss at the meeting.

TWIST, “Towards more Women In Science and Technology”, is an initiative born from a group of scientists across the different life science institutions in Basel (D-BSSE (ETH), UniBasel, SwissTPH, FMI) aiming to create a network to empower and connect women in STEM within the Basel area. We organize several events that encourage people to interact, create new opportunities and address issues surrounding careers and education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Pro Scientia Basel is an initiative supported by individuals from life science research institutions in Basel** to create a local network that connects and empowers scientists through networking events and professional development activities. Our goal is to promote equitable conditions for enabling excellent contributions in science and advancing career progression.
